GENESÍA
Alaï is a Panamanian-Venezuelan singer, songwriter, and artist based in California. Her music moves between Spanish and English, drawing on latin tradition and threading it through folk, art-pop, and alt-rock.
Her debut single, Curiosa, came together while living off-grid in Northern California with no internet access. She released it with no marketing, no press, no strategy. A couple weeks later, while camping in the mountains, she returned to service to find the self-made video going viral. The song has since surpassed 1.8 million streams.
That unplanned momentum led to an introduction to James Chul Rim, a multi-platinum producer, recording and mixing engineer whose credits include Willow Smith, Jaden Smith, SZA, Tyler the Creator, Justin Bieber, Iann Dior, and A$AP Rocky and who is widely recognized for his production on Willow's "Wait a Minute!"
What began as a handful of songs Alaï brought into their first sessions grew, over two years, into her debut album, Genesía. The tracks on Genesía have been referred to as new-weird folk Americana and medicine art-pop. The songs are offerings for the tender-heart, truth, and curiosity during times of uncertainty.
Genesía is being released independently, led by the single "Ningún Arma," out September 18th, with the full album arriving this winter on vinyl and digital release.

“So enchanting. The music, puppetry, and production design made me feel drawn into a magical faery world. I laughed, I cried. I was left with a renewed sense of magic and community.”
— Nikki Carnarius, Director, The Mysteries of Persephone“Fantastically imaginative — incredible music, beautiful voices, kick-ass balancing act between totally grounded and spiritually other-worldly. It was like a night in Titania's court.” -Tyler Hayes Stillwell, Sacred Fools Theater Company
“A soft and whimsical experience with lovely music, a mystical atmosphere, and just enough silliness sprinkled in.”
— Tozy Magic, Fringe Veteran
